About me

Hey there, welcome to SWAY! My name is Hamish Barton.

My personal life philosophy is to ‘be present and feel the joy’. One of the biggest challenges right now is the ability to be present, there are so many distractions in life, the ability to be where your feet are and feel the joy in that moment is a real gift.

My values are - Inner calm, being my best coach, caring and curiosity.

My purpose is to ‘be available and listen deeply’. This starts with myself, being available to myself, creating time and space to connect and listen deeply to what’s going on internally.

Thanks for checking this out and potentially jumping on this journey with me. I’m married to my beautiful wife, Mai, and we’re parents to two amazing boys, Santi and Tomi. We live in Matakana, New Zealand, located 40 minutes north of Auckland. For over two decades, I've been focusing my professional life on the world of high performance, primarily in sport but also in the private sector.

I grew up in Wainui Beach, Gisborne, one of my favourite places in the world! As a young boy, all I wanted to be was a professional cricketer and play for my country. I poured all my energy into that and managed to reach one of those goals, playing professionally for seven years, but I burnt myself out by age 26 and stopped playing. After finishing my Sports Management degree at Lincoln University, Christchurch, I dove into sports administration. Then, I gravitated to coaching, even jet-setting to Argentina for four years, to help their national cricket team get into shape. Later on, I held roles as assistant coach and eventually took the reins as Head Coach for the WHITE FERNS – New Zealand's awesome Women's Cricket Team.

I have always been curious and wanted to experience lots of variety in my life. Throughout my career, I've been lucky enough to work in different environments alongside incredible people and learn from some of the best in high performance.

I'm a certified NLP Practitioner and yoga and meditation teacher. I am a high-performance hybrid who believes in creating sound structures and systems for consistent performance. Still, I am also a massive believer that high- performance is also about building deep connections with yourself and being grounded in who you are to enable yourself to build a solid foundation to thrive. I’m deeply passionate about helping people grow, fostering great team culture and giving ambitious humans the tools they need to connect, evolve and thrive.
